GOLD Ageing Well with Learning Disabilities Conference 2022 – Thank you for joining us

Thank you to all delegates who joined us in-person and online for the GOLD Ageing Well with Learning Disabilities conference 2022. It was an insightful, inspiring day filled with positivity.

This year’s GOLD conference was co-chaired by Patricia Charlesworth and Beverley Dawkins OBE. The one-day event featured a range of fantastic keynotes from professionals working in the field and people with lived experience, exploring best practice in supporting people as they age.

The inspiring keynotes provided us with the opportunity to learn, discuss and contribute to the conversation exploring the ways that we can support people with learning disabilities throughout their lives. They included Danielle Adams discussing the important and often overlooked issue of the menopause and an uplifting and practical session on how reasonable adjustment in a radiotherapy department were implemented, by Amy Dodd.

A range of workshops explored practical ways of supporting people to achieve the good quality health and care they are entitled to. These included raising awareness of falls prevention in adults with learning disabilities and an exploration of the needs of older autistic adults by Pamela Hirsch, a powerful self-advocate and autism campaigner.

Lindsey Allen, Bild’s Learning Disability and Autism Manager said of the conference:

The combination of research, good practice examples and the voice of lived experience gave the event a unique focus which kept delegates engaged throughout.
