We are delighted to share that booking is now open for ‘Building the right support through trauma informed approaches and relational working’ – a conference from Bild, the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) and Respond.  

Taking place on Wednesday 28 June 2023, at theStudio Birmingham, the event seeks to further our shared mission to deepen services’ understanding of trauma, and its impact on people with, learning disabilities, autistic people and people with mental health difficulties.   

The conference will be of interest to those working in the education, health and social care sectors. In particular, for Commissioners, head teachers, social workers, learning disability nurses and psychologists. 

Family carers and people with lived experience are also warmly welcomed.

Celebrating 30 years of Respond 

We are delighted that this event also celebrates the 30th anniversary of Respond offering specialist services to people with learning disabilities and autistic people with experience of trauma.  

Respond has pioneered unique specialised services that support people with learning disabilities and autistic people who have experienced abuse and trauma.  All our work has its foundations in the psychodynamic and systemic theories of psychotherapy and trauma. Our ambition is to enable organisations and individuals to clearly understand why being trauma informed in approach is important in order to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities and autistic people and empower individuals and organisations to achieve this. 

Conference Programme 

The conference will offer a programme of thought-provoking keynotes and workshops to develop trauma-informed understanding and practice.  

The conference programme will include:  

  • Speakers including experts by experience, professionals, academics across education health and social care.  
  • A focus on the key themes of therapeutic and relational working, trauma-informed approaches with people most at risk of poor mental health in order to prevent institutional, restrictive and traumatic models of care 
  • A display of coproduced paintings by artist Henny Beaumont.  
  • Workshops on themes including advocacy; Cosa; transforming care; forensics; young people and therapeutic approaches. 
  • A celebration of 30 years of Respond

The conference takes place at the vibrant theStudio Birmingham 

Easily reached by public transport, theStudio is just a five minute walk from Birmingham New Street Station for those arriving by train and also is served by a host of city bus routes.
