Bild statement on use of aversive practices

Bild is aware of and deeply concerned by organisations continuing to use punishment and aversive techniques in the name of supporting vulnerable people. We condemn these practices in the strongest possible terms, they are a violation of human rights and entirely unacceptable.

We have been greatly disappointed to see recent international conferences promoting the continued use of these practices, notably the use of contingent skin shock, when supporting vulnerable people. These practices are unjustifiable and have no place in any therapeutic or educational setting.

Bild believes that human rights are absolute. Across our work we seek to improve policy and practice, building a society in which everyone can enjoy the same rights and opportunities. We reject, unreservedly, any practice that demeans and violates the rights of the individual.
