Good Communication
At Bild, we know that maximising an individual’s opportunity for communication is critical for supporting the autonomy, wellbeing and quality of life of people with a learning disability and autistic people.
The course is designed to improve your understanding of the foundations of good communication including how to adapt your communication to suit the preferences of individuals and how to use a range of communication techniques to convey information.
Who is it for?
Good Communication is for anyone who would like in-depth advice on communicating with someone with a learning disability. For example, support workers, health professionals or social care professionals.
How will I learn?
Equivalent to one day’s training, Good Communication is a blended learning course, consisting of online learning and two short, small group online tutorials, co-facilitated by an expert by experience.

- The difference between “understanding” and “expressive communication”
- How to assess “keyword understanding”
- Strategies to support people’s understanding and communication
- The role of good communication in choice-making and the Mental Capacity Act
